If you are just starting out on your musical journey, already a seasoned player, or maybe looking for lessons for your child, then I can absolutely help you. As an engaging and personable tutor, I love passing on my knowledge and experience to my students.
My name’s Rob Hobson, I’ve been privately tutoring guitar since 2007. I’ve taught and mentored guitar players, teachers and conducted ensemble classes at Leeds Junior Conservatoire. I now have a small teaching practice in Acomb, York where I offer a limited amount of spaces. I specialise in:
- Teaching beginners of all ages, including children and teenagers from Primary School to College.
- Blues, Jazz, Classical and Rock styles. Hybrid picking technique.
- Composition and reharmonisation theory, particulary in Jazz and Pop styles.

Lesson and fee information
I mainly teach one-to-one guitar lessons in York from my home. I can also usually accommodate lessons from your own home. I don’t offer group lessons, I focus on one individual’s ability at a time. Online lessons are available, but I would only recommend them for intermediate to advanced players.
- Single lessons are based on Musician’s Union Rates: £42 for 60 minutes, £21 for 30 minutes.
- Book a term (typically 6 or 7 weekly lessons) and receive either a £10 discount (60 minute lessons) or £5 discount (30 minute lessons).
- If you wish for me to come to you, then a “home visit fee” is added at £5 per lesson within the York area, subject to availability.

Cancellation Policy
I respect my students and take both your education and my profession very seriously. Under a rare circumstance where I cancel a lesson, then you will either be refunded or credited a lesson at your preference.
- Lessons cancelled by the student cannot be refunded.
- A lesson credit or refund will only be offered should I need to cancel the lesson.
